Shoshan Haran

Dr. Shoshan Haran is a member of Kibbutz Be'eri, a mother to Adi, Yuval and Shaked, and a grandmother to Nave and Yahel. Shoshan is the founder of the non-profit organization ‘Fair Planet’. The organization has aided in rescuing hundreds of thousands of African residents from extreme poverty by establishing active agricultural operations. ‘Fair Planet’ creates a bridge between the capabilities developed by seed companies and the needs of small farmers to address the issue of hunger.
Shoshan earned her bachelor's degree in Plant Protection at the Faculty of Agriculture of The Hebrew University. After her studies, she worked in this domain in the fields of the kibbutz. She returned to the faculty for a direct Ph.D. track under the supervision of Prof. Ilan Chet. She then continued, with her family, to a post-doctorate at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
Upon her return to Israel, Shoshan worked for 11 years at Hazera Company, specializing in the cultivation of vegetable varieties. She subsequently founded Fair Planet as a charitable organization, making a substantial contribution towards alleviating hunger in impoverished nations, inching closer to realizing the dream of eradicating global hunger.
On Saturday October 7th, Shoshan was kidnapped from her home on Kibbutz Be'eri, alongside her daughter Adi Shoham (38), her son-in-law, Tal (38) and their young children, Nave (8) and Yahel (3). Shoshan’s husband, Avshalom Haran (66), an economist and dual German-Israeli citizen -, was murdered during the brutal attack. Shoshan’s sister Lilach Kipnis and her husband Evyatar Kipnis were also murdered in their home.
Sharon Avigdori (52), Avshalom’s sister, was kidnapped with her daughter Noam (12) on that fatal Saturday as well. Of the extended Haran - Shoham - Avigdori family, three members were murdered and seven others were kidnapped by Hamas terrorists.
Shoshan was released from captivity in Gaza on 25 November as part of a temporary cease-fire agreement, along with Adi, Nave and Yahel Shoham, and Sharon and Noam Avigdori .
Just two days after her release, Shoshan was already visiting the president of Israel, Yitzhak Herzog. "After I've returned, we need to ensure that all the other captives are brought back as well," she told him.
Shoshan's son-in-law and Adi's husband, Tal Shoham, is still in captivity and his family, with us all, awaits his safe return home.
